Yesterday I awoke to an affirming text from a friend mine.
The poem he shared is written by Rabbi Hillel with a strong narrative in the importance of self-care measures.
Pirkei Avot 1:14 (14) He [Rabbi Hillel] used to say: If I am not for me, who will be for me? And when I am for myself alone, what am I? And if not now, then when?
Self-care is something that is actually quite difficult for me as I’m often distracted with caring for others.
Often it takes prompts from friends that know me best to ensure I’m looking after myself appropriately. Tough as I’m building a business grounded in self-care measures while most days I need to check if I have fresh underwear on.
Anyway, yesterday was what the Dutch refer to as Blue Monday.
Never knew this existed until moving to Holland and being treated for seasonal depression.
I spent a few years receiving bright light therapy in a clinical setting with a regiment of melatonin during winter months proving this combo to be a success for supporting my mental health.
Should you know someone who struggles, please send them my way or visit here for list of local Hague based resources.
Kind reminder to look after yourself... won’t you? It helps me remind myself while reminding you to do the same.
